Senior Exhibition for the Class of 2011 Senior Exhibition Day for the Class of 2011 is Tuesday, May 24, 2011. Successful completion of the Senior Exhibition project is a SDUSD Graduation Requirement. It focuses on the capabilities people need to be productive members of society. Capable and productive individuals are those who can apply knowledge gained in school and elsewhere to analyze problems and propose solutions, communicate effectively and coordinate action with others using the tools of the information age workplace. The San Diego Unified School District Board of Education and Superintendent, the business community of San Diego, and the faculty and staff of SRHS believe all students should demonstrate mastery of the Applied Learning Standards as part of a high school graduation requirement: • Problem Solving (see below) • Communication Tools and Techniques; communicate information and ideas through spoken, written, and graphic expression • Information Tools and Techniques; use information gathering techniques, analyze, organize, evaluate and present information • Learning and Self-Management Tools and Techniques; manage and direct your own learning • Tools and Techniques for Working with Others; work with others to achieve a shared goal, help others learn on-the-job, and respond effectively to the needs of a client The Senior Exhibition is the culmination of a student’s completed project that demonstrates the ability to solve a problem by: • Designing a product, service, or system to meet an identified need • Improving a system (of people, machines, processes) to meet an identified need, or devises and tests ways of improving the effectiveness of a system • Planning and organizing an event or activity from concept to completion making good use of resources • Performing Community Service that solves a problem and provides a benefit to the community or an organization (new for 2011) Any project that is a school activity and requires an activity request will not qualify for a Senior Exhibition project Projects done for a grade in a class at SRHS will not qualify for a Senior Exhibition project. In order to demonstrate mastery of the applied learning standards, all seniors will be required to successfully complete the Senior Exhibition to graduate from San Diego City Schools (Senior Exhibition is a SDUSD graduation requirement). Scripps Ranch High School's Senior Exhibition includes the following elements: 1. Senior Project 2. Oral Presentation (a 7-10 minute oral presentation of the Senior Exhibition project will be given in the spring to a committee comprised of teachers, staff members, students, parents, and business partners) 2. Visual Aid (The visual aid demonstrates graphic communication skills and should support the project and presentation) 3. Reflection Paper and Resume The reflective essay reflects on the personal experience of defining your topic (the problem you solved), planning, preparing for, and completing the Senior Exhibition project. It also showcases your writing ability. The reflection paper helps you think about the process, struggles, and dilemmas you faced in the completion of the Senior Exhibition project. Evaluation of Project Evaluation of the Senior Exhibition project consists of the following components: Deadlines/Checkpoints (25 pts), Visual Aid (15 pts), Reflection Paper & Resume (25 pts), Presentation (40 pts), Evidence during presentation that the project was truly completed (15 pts) and whether the presentation topic matches the topic on the contract and you present on your appointment day (15 pts). One hundred two points of the 135 possible (76%) are needed to meet the Senior Exhibition graduation requirement. Note: Seniors not meeting deadlines will be placed on Senior Review and will be at risk of losing participation in senior activities (prom, senior breakfast, graduation ceremony) All Senior Exhibition presentations will occur on the afternoon of Tuesday, May 24, 2011. |
